In 1991, 17 years old Marie Gillain played in her first movie The Bait, directed by Bertrand Tavernier. The movie won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1995.
Ever since, her filmography doesn’t stop getting longer. She performs with directors such as the Taviani brothers, Ettore Scola and Philippe de Brocca in the movie On Guard, for which she earns her first César nomination.
During the 2000’s, she performs under the direction of Cédric Klapish in Not For, or Against, Danis Tanovic in Hell, Régis Wargnier in Have Mercy on Us All, Guillaume Nicloux in La Clef and Anne Fontaine in Coco Before Chanel.
In 2011, she stars in All Our Desires next to Vincent Lindon and directed by Philippe Lioret, for which she earns a second nomination at the Césars for her deepling moving performance as an examining magistrate.
Then she stared in François Xavier de Vives’ first movie Landes next to Jalil Lespert.
In 2016 she wins a Molière Award for her incredible performance in the play Venus in Fur directed by Jérémie Lippmann.
In 2017 she stars in Pierre Aknine’s TV series Souviens-toi, next to Sami Bouajila. Then she directs her first short film Timing, which was introduced at the Cannes’ Talent Adami.
In 2018, she plays a delightful Speakerine with Guillaume de Tonquédec in Laurent Tuel’s mini series, produced by France 2.
She is currently writing her first full length movie as a director.
